Who has developed the SIMI Car History Check website?
SIMI Car History Check is a joint venture between SIMI and Experian, Experian is a global leader in providing analytical and information services to organisations and consumers to help manage the risk and reward of commercial and financial decisions.
Can I have a free-trial?
Please contact SIMI 01/6761690, Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm. If you are an SIMI member you will need your SIMI number. Your application will be subject for approval by SIMI, after you have been approved you will have free access to a limited version of the site for 10 days, at any point you can purchase a license by clicking on the “Invoice me now button”.
How long will it take to be approved?
Your application should be reviewed within 24 hours of you submitting your details. You will receive an email informing you of the result of the approval process.
I am an SIMI member and I cannot find my membership number?
Your SIMI number will be located at the bottom of your membership certificate. If you cannot find this please contact SIMI at 01-6761690.
Is this site available to non SIMI members?
Yes it is, however, you will not avail of the SIMI discount.
Is this service available to the consumer?
No, at this time the service will be available to professional businesses only.
How many users can I register?
This depends on the type of user you are, we have two levels of access Full and Micro, more details are available in the “Pricing section”.
I registered for the Mirco site how do I upgrade to the Full Site
Go to the administration page of your account and click on “Upgrade Account”
What are your contact details?

What information do I need to complete a check on a vehicle?
You will only need the vehicle registration number or VIN number.
What vehicles are stored on the Car History database?
You can check on any vehicle registered in Ireland or the UK.
Can I find out if a vehicle is imported?
Yes you can and if, this vehicle has been imported from the UK you will be able to check if this vehicle has outstanding finance, write-off information or if it is registered as stolen.
Can I find out if there is finance outstanding on this vehicle?
Yes you can, there will be a charge from HPI for this information of €5.00 per HPI check.
How long does it take to get a report?
The report is instantaneous; this can be printed from the screen or will be stored in your previously searched vehicles section.
How up-to-date is the information?
The database is updated on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
What do I need to use the website?
You will need a computer, internet connection, user name and password, registration number or VIN number.
I have forgotten my user name and/or password. How do I retrieve this?
Click on “Forgot your password” and follow the prompts.
There appears to be a suspicious mileage entered in the vehicle history. How do I trace this mileage back?
Contact suzanne@simi.ie and we will be able to determine by the Dealer ID which dealer entered the mileage.
Will I know straight away if a vehicle has been imported or do I always need to do a further UK Check?
If a vehicle has been imported, this will be flagged on the dashboard Search Results screen
Can I check on a UK registration number
Yes you can.
Under the Guide Valuation tab, there are numerous vehicles returned with different prices.
As these asking prices are obtained from Carzone.ie, free text is used so in order to filter the information down more accurately, you can click on the box beside Year, Engine Capacity, Engine Type and Body Type.
Where are the UK mileages sourced from?
The UK mileages are collected from a number of sources including:
DVLA
These are all mileages received from the DVLA via their different forms. A V62 is a form used to apply for a registration document (V5) if the original is lost, stolen, defaced or never passed on. Other comes in from V5 doc at change of keeper, document update time.
MANUFACTURER MILEAGE
Supplied to VMC directly from the manufacture - such as BMW who capture mileage at disposal time
WARRANTY
Any which has been supplied via Warranty details.
VMC (KEEPER)
Vehicle Mileage Check have performed a due diligence and contacted previous keepers of the vehicle and asked for confirmation of mileage
VMC (DEALER)
Dealers who are VMC members supply mileage info.
BVRLA MEMBER
British Vehicle Rental and Leasing associates provide mileage details at the point of disposal of vehicle
BVRLA ASSOCIATE
This info is provided by a third party - so if you get your tyres replaced and they capture the mileage it's supplied.
RMI MILEAGE SCHEME
This mileage is captured by Retail Motor Industry members - for example, you take your car to be serviced or repaired at an RMI member garage, the mileage is captured and supplied
How do I access information on a previous search I have conducted on a vehicle?
Click on the ‘Previous Search’ tab (located beside the ‘Start New Check’ tab) and enter in the reg. no. VIN or the date that you conducted a search on the vehicle.
